Objective:To teach the students how light travels through atmosphere and scattering of light

Subtopics to be covered:

  1. Scattering of light
  2. Shadow formation
  3. Eclipses

Learning Outcome:

  1. Students learn why objects around us appear colored
  2. They are introduced to concept of light scattering light into its components.
  3. They learn the phenomenon of eclipses.

3. Take a half meter long cardpaper, normal paper or plastic sheet and make a tube out of it. Look through it at some object. Now bend the tube and try to look at the object. The object will not be visible. Why so? It is because light travels in a straight line.

4. Take two pots with new saplings. Keep one pot in darkness and other pot in sunlight. After 2 days observe the two saplings. What change do you observe? The plant that received sunlight grows and looks fresh and green, while the other plant looks pale. This shows that light is necessary for growth of plants
