Activities

1. Make two teams. One team will write a number on board, and other team will guess whether it is a rational number or not.

2. Make a chart of how rational numbers consists of integers, whole numbers, natural numbers.

Lesson Plan version 1.1 activities

1. Ask the students to count the strength of the entire class and write that number down. Ask them how they would represent a number if 5 new kids were to be added and the same if 5 were to leave. Now ask them to divide the original number by another number and write it as a fraction.

2. Divide the class into four groups. For each group, ask them to come up with a list of 10 rational numbers and note it down. Ask them to count how many positive and negative rational numbers are in each list. if there is no negative number, ask them to add.

3. a) Use the list of rational number from previous class and ask the groups to represent those on a number line. From there, ask children to find the biggest and the smallest number in their lists.

b) In addition to a number line, draw a cake on the board and say that this cake is to be cut in 6 equal parts. If one of the students is to be given 1 part and another student is to be given 2 parts, how many parts in total would be eaten? Ask them to represent this problem on a number line.

4. a) Divide students into groups and give a list of rational numbers. Ask the students to pick any two 5 rational numbers and find 5 rational numbers between them.

(Note: Class assistant to guide and help children in doing the activity)

b) Ask the groups to find the biggest and the smallest numbers from the numbers chosen.
