Objective: To educate the children about the fuels used in the various modes of transport and for cooking in today's life. Subtopics to be covered:

  1. Fuels- Fossil Fuels
  2. Coal- (Occurence, Composition, Types, Destructive distillation of coal, Consumption)
  3. Petroleum (Occurrence, Refining of crude petroleum)
  4. Natural Gas (Occurence, The way of using natural gas, Advantages and uses of CNG)
  5. Natural Resources and Limitation (Alternative sources)
  6. Science today (Hydrogen, Cold Fusion Process, Methane from sewage)

Learning Outcome:

  1. Students know the different fuels used around, the types and occurences and how to save fuel.

1. Look around you, what are the substances that are natural and which are manmade?

2.What are the forms of coal? where are they used? explore and make a chart.

3. Choose any five families of your neighbourhood. Enquire whether their energy consumption (coal, gas, electricity, petrol, kerosene) has increased or decreased in the last five years. Enquire also about the measures they adopt to conserve energy
