Objective: To teach the students about the concept and measures/ units of time

Subtopics to be covered:

  1. Units of time.
  2. Conversion of time to seconds, minutes or hours.
  3. Railway time
  4. Leap Year

Learning Outcome:

  1. Students are able to identify measures of time, convert time to various units of time, railway time conversion and are able to calculate the time interval.

1. If you walk fast you will reach finish line sooner or later? How to check? Keep a walking race. 5 Students walk from one end of classroom to other end of the room. See who reaches first. How is speed of the student related to time here? Discuss and share.

2. Ask the students to record their guessed time and the real time taken to complete the following tasks:

  1. walk around the classroom table 5 times
  2. to walk to the main entrance school gate from the classroom
  3. to recite the alphabets

Compare the time difference (guessed time and actual time)

3. Ask 12 students to form a circle ,representing the numbers of a clock .Make 2 students to stand in the middle to represent the hands of a clock.The remaining students in the class can come up with several time combinations and these kids can represent the time as a group.Students can take turns as a group by switching their roles.
