Activities

[Contributor - Arshea Bimal]

1. Ask the students to name a few things that are hot, cold.

2. Take three large mugs. Label them as A, B and C. Put cold water in mug A and hot water in mug B. Mix some cold and hot water in mug C. Now dip your left hand in mug A and the right hand in mug B. After keeping the hands in the two mugs for 2–3 minutes, put both the hands simultaneously in mug C. Do both the hands get the same feeling?

Lesson Plan version 1.1 activities

1. Ask children to rub their palms against each other and put them on their cheeks. What do they feel?

2. Get a glass full of hot water. Dip a spoon or steel ruler in it for some time and remove. Touch the end of the spoon.

3. Take three rods and apply wax spots on equal distances. Stick one pin upright on each wax spot. Heat one end of the rods using a candle. Observe

4. Heat some water in a beaker and add few potassium permanganate crystals. Observe carefully.

5. Take water in a test tube and heat it near the mouth of test tube. Drop an ice cube wrapped with wire gauge in the text tube. Observe.

6. Colour and its ability to absorb Radiation. Take two aluminum tins of same size. Colour outer surface of a tin black. Place one glass of water in each tin and close the lid. Place in sun for few hours. Measure the temperature of water in both glasses.

7. Get a glass full of hot water. Dip a spoon, plastic ruler, pencil, divider, etc. in it for some time. Then touch the other end. Ask them to enter their observations in the tabular format

8. When two almost equal size bowls get stuck in each other, we heat the outer bowl to separate them. If possible take a demo.
