1. Use a comb to comb your hair few times and bring the comb close to bits of paper. Do you see the paper bits sticking to the comb? This is called static electricity.

2. Arrange for a piece of paper, plastic cover, nylon cloth, silk cloth, cotton cloth etc. Use these items for rubbing a refill, eraser, wooden scale, steelspoon against them and bring them close to bits of paper. Do the paper bits get attracter to the rubbed item ? Tabulate your observation.

lesson Plan version 1.1 activities

1. Ask children to make small pieces of paper. Now ask them to rub plastic ruler on their hair and move the ruler over those paper bits and observe.

2. Blow up a balloon fully and tie it closed. Set it aside for a moment. Pour small mounds of table salt and ground black pepper onto a plate. Combine the two. Aggressively rub the balloon on a head of hair or wool. Hold the balloon over top of the plate. Observe the static electricity

3. Turn on the kitchen faucet to get a narrow, continuous stream of water. Rub the inflated balloon on your hair several times until some of your hair starts sticking to the balloon when you lift the balloon. Place the balloon near, but not touching, the stream of water. Observe how the water bends towards the balloon.
