Focus Spot: Expressing Large Numbers in a standard form. Why: Students are unable to express large numbers in standard form as they get confused why decimal numbers are used when 10 (raised to a certain power) is already getting multiplied to the number. Students also have a hard time understanding the position of a decimal in the standard form of the number. Impact: Students will find it difficult to represent really big numbers in standard form.
