1. Ask the students to name a few things that are hot, cold.

2. Take three large mugs. Label them as A, B and C. Put cold water in mug A and hot water in mug B. Mix some cold and hot water in mug C. Now dip your left hand in mug A and the right hand in mug B. After keeping the hands in the two mugs for 2–3 minutes, put both the hands simultaneously in mug C. Do both the hands get the same feeling?

Lesson Plan Version 1.1 Activities

1. Take a beaker containing cold water and another one containing hot water (Alternatively, use two borosil glasses, if the teacher is demonstrating the activity). Put a drop of ink in each of them. Observe the beakers.

2. Divide the students into two groups. To one group, assign the task of touching the objects which are out in the sun, like a bicycle, bricks, stones, gate/door etc and note if they felt warm or cold. Ask the other group to do the same with objects which are in the shade like their desk, chair, pen, bags etc. Discuss their observation.

3. Ask one group of students to collect some stones lying in the sun and the other group to gather some of those lying in the shade and discuss which one of those felt warmer and why.

4. Take three large mugs. Label them as A, B and C. Put cold water in mug A and hot water in mug B. Mix some cold and hot water in mug C. Now, dip your left hand in mug A and the right hand in mug B. After keeping the hands in the two mugs for 2–3 minutes, put both the hands simultaneously in mug C. Do both the hands get the same feeling?

5. Let the students play a game like ‘Who Am I?’ in which students are divided into groups and each group describes a particular example or definition etc that they have learnt in the chapter and the other group has to identify it.

Example- The doctor uses me to check fever when someone falls sick. Who am I?

You may ask the class assistant to keep the scores.
