Objective: To teach the students about hard water/soft water

Subtopics to be covered:

- Methods to soften hard water

- Heavy water

- Types of hydrogen atom

Learning Outcome:

- Students know about the difference between hard and soft water

- They know about the disadvantages of hard/heavy water

[Author - Kripa S, Nandini N]

1. Take two glasses of water. Add salt in one glass and mix well. Now add one pinch of soap powder in both the glasses of water. You will observe that the soap dissolves faster in the water without salt (soft water), but takes more time to dissolve in salt water (hard water)

2. When you store hard water in a vessel, you will see salt sediments in the vessel after water evaporates. Observe at home and share your points.
