Objective: To learn Vowels and Consonants

Subtopics to be covered:

1. Learn to identify vowels and consonants as a subset of alphabets.

2. Be able to identify if a letter is a consonant or a vowel in given text.

3. Understand that every word must have a vowel

4. Be able to comprehend the pattern of the use of vowels and consonants in simple words

Learning Outcome:

Students will be able to answer these questions-

1. Why is it important to know the difference between vowels and consonants?

2. What sounds do vowels make?

3. What is special about the letter 'y'?

4. What type of a vowel sound is in the word _____________?

5. How can you tell if a letter is a consonant or a vowel.

1. Discuss how to orally blend two letters.eg., ba, be, bi, bo , bu, sa…...Practice two-letter blends. Repeat and practise.

2. Make two teams. Share a word and the team has to separate vowels and consonants. The team that gets maximum score wins.

3. Share a set of words with missing vowel letters (Ex: D _ G). Ask the students to identify the missing vowel/s and complete the word.

4. Give them a set of words (Ex: LION, DOG, ROSE, etc). Ask them to identify the vowel/s.

How about giving words with missing letters and those missing letters are vowels? Same logic another way is to give words and ask kids to circle out the vowels in it..
