Objective: To teach the students about nutrients and nutrition mode in plants (autotrophism and heterotrophism)
Subtopics to be covered:
- Photosynthesis
- Saprotrophs, symbiotic relationship
- How nutrients are refilled in soil
Learning Outcome:
- Students know about the various nutrition modes in plants
- They know about the substances produced during photosynthesis (O2 and CO2)
- They should be able to explain why farmers are adding manures and fertilizers to soil

1. Ask students to list out the various colours of leaves that they have observed.
2. Make the students to ask around about fertilizers. What do the most common fertilizers contain?
3. Ask the students to name some parasites that they have observed. What are their hosts?
4. Take a piece of bread and moisten it with water. Leave it in a moist warm place for 2–3 days or until fluffy patches appear on them. These patches may be white, green, brown or of any other colour. What could this be?
