Objective: To learn about presence of elements in our body and in nature

Subtopics to be covered:

- Proportion of all elements in human body

- Significance of elements, compounds in human body

- Acidic, basic food substances

- Chemicals found in nature - flowers, fruits, vegetables and their properties

- Introduction to polymer and plastics - manmade materials

- Soap, Detergents, Fertilizers, Pesticides

Learning Outcome:

- Students can name items that fall in above explained categories

1. Ask the students to list one complete meal that they eat regularly. Ask them to state the ingredients used to prepare the meal. Which of those ingredients came from plants? Classify the ingredients according to the part of a plant that it comes from.


2. Ask a student to list out their one complete meal. Classify parts of the meal according to nutrients: proteins, carbohydrates and fat. Ask students to give a few more examples of food containing each of the nutrients.
