1. Bean sort activity - The students will be in groups of 2-3 in which each group will receive a zip-top bag containing 7 different types of dry beans. The students will be directed to sort the beans based upon physical appearance. They will be given 4-5 minutes to sort them out. The teacher should walk around and observe the groups to make sure they are fully engaged with the activity and to answer any questions that may arise. After the groups have completed their sorting, students and teacher will have a whole class discussion based on the following questions: What tools did you use to organize the beans? Why is it helpful to organize or classify items?
