Objective:To introduce the concept of a fraction and various operations on fractions Sub Topics:

  1. Difference between whole numbers and fractions.
  2. Equivalent Fractions
  3. Representation of fractions on a number line.
  4. Comparison of Fractions
  5. Operations on fractions

Learning Outcome:

  1. Students will learn about fractions , difference between whole numbers and fractions
  2. They will know about the numerator and denominator
  3. Students will know how to perform mathematical operations on fractional numbers

Make teams of 4 students. Each team must draw a circle and divide it in 12 equal parts. Each team must make chits of paper and write these fractions : 1/12, 2,12,3/12,4/12,5/12,6/12.....11/12,1/2,1/3,1/4,1/6. Shuffle these chits. One students picks out one chit and shades those many parts of circle. Then the next student will pick out another chit and shade those many parts. Repeat this step till the circle is fully shaded. The team which shades the circle first wins.
