Lesson Plan

[Contributor - Kripa S]

Objective: Introduce Divisibility Tests to group numbers

Subtopics to be covered:

- Revise divisibility by 2, 5, 10

- Divisibility by 3, 4, 9

Learning Outcome:

- Students can group numbers from a given set on their divisibility by 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10

- Students can identify if a given number passes any of the divisibility tests

Activities

[Contributors - Sahil Sapru, Stuti Shah]

1. Ask Students to stand in a line. From the start line, ask the third student to move two setps to his/her right. Ask every 3rd student in the line to move in the same way as the earlier student did. Ask those students who have moved to their right to name their earlier position (w.r.t earlier line) and their new position (w.r.t) new position. The earlier positions are all divisible by the number "3" and their value is the Dividend and the new position value is the quotient. (We can follow the same activity for students starting with the every 5th student in the line.)

2. Ask students to cut a piece of paper into 20 small bits. Ask the student to name the bits starting from 1 to 20. Ask the student to arrange the paper pieces in the following order- All odd numbers to the left side and all the even numbers to the right side. The numbers on the right side are divisible by the number "2".

3. Ask students to cut a piece of paper into 20 small bits. Ask the student to name the bits starting from 1 to 20. Ask the students to group the paper pieces in groups of 2 consecutive numbers (1 &2, 3&4…. Etc). The last number will show the numbers divisible by "2". Now ask the students to double the consecutive numbers (1,2,3 &4 ; 5,6,7&8,.....etc), the last number of the piece will show the number divisible by "4". Similarly double the numbers and you will achieve a number divisibe by "8.
