Lesson Plan version 1.1 activities

1. Take a piece of paper, tear it. Compare the two pieces of paper. What do you observe? The pieces maybe same or different in size and shape. Is there any new substance formed?

2. Burn a piece of paper. What do you observe? Some gases evolve and ash is formed. Does the ash possess the properties of the paper?

3. 1. Take a small amount of calcium oxide or quick lime in a beaker. Slowly add water to this. Touch the beaker. Do you feel any change in temperature?

4. 2. Take two spoons of lead nitrate in a test tube. Heat it for some time. What do you observe?

5. 3. Take a pinch of silver chloride in a china-dish. What is the colour? It is white. Place the china dish in sunlight for some time. Observe it after sometime.

6. 1. Take copper sulphate solution in a test tube. Place a fresh iron nail in this solution. What do you observe? After some time you will observe that a thin film of copper is deposited on the iron nail. Keep it for the whole day. Observe the test tube the next day. What do you observe? You will observe that more copper is deposited on the iron nail and also the colour of the solution has changed into green

7. 2. Take about 3 ml of sodium sulphate solutionin a test tube. Take about 3 ml of barium chloride solutionin another test tube. Mix the two solutions. What do you observe?
