Objective: To teach the students about food production from plants and its management.

Subtopics to be covered:

  1. Crops in India (including their duration and seasons)
  2. Production of Paddy
  3. Various Agricultural Practices

Learning Outcome:

  1. Students know about various types of crops grown in India and their seasons
  2. They also know about various agricultural practices involved in food production

1. We eat different fruits and vegetables. Are all the vegetables and fruits available throughout the year? In a particular season

some are mostly available and some are less in number. Some are not at all available. Discuss in groups and make a list of vegetables, fruits, pulses, cereals available in monsoon, winter and summer season.

2. Soak seeds in a glass of water. Few seeds will float and few will sink. Soak both types of seeds in different pots and provide water uniformly, observe the growth of the plants in two pots and make a report.

a) Which seeds germinate well? Why?

b) Which seeds do not germinate properly? Why?

c) Were all seeds tested like this?

d) Do you know how the paddy seeds germinate?
