Go To: APSB-Science-Grade 8

[edit]

[Contributor - Aasma Ahmad]

Objective: To teach the students about electric conductivity of liquids and its uses

Subtopics to be covered:

  1. Electric conductivity
  2. Chemical effect of electric current
  3. Electrolytic cell
  4. Electroplating

Learning Outcome:

  1. Students know that some liquids conduct electricity as some solids do
  2. They know when a liquid conducts electricity
  3. They know about electrolysis and its use in making cell and electroplating

[Author - Kripa S]

1. Arrange 7 paper cups for these 7 liquids: milk, curd, lemon juice, salt water, sugar water, tomato juice, plain water. Use a regular battery, and three small copper wires. Connect one end of one wire to the battery and other end into a cup, one end of the second wire to the battery and other end to the LED bulb; and third wire from the LED bulb to a cup. Check which liquid is a conductor of electricty, which liquid is an insulator. Record your observations.
