[Author - Kripa S]

Objective: To revise how to organize data, introduce mean, median, mode and graphs

Subtopics to be covered:

- Arithmetic mean, Median, Mode

- Grouped frequency, tally marks

- Types of graphs (bar graph, histogram)

Learning Outcome:

- Students can find arithmetic mean, median, mode for a given data

- Students can make frequency table and draw bar graph

- Students can decipher a graph and answer questions based on the data

1. Ask students to form groups of 4. They can then find the mean, median and mode of:

  1. Their height
  2. Their weight
  3. Also represent the same graphically through a bar graph and histogram.

2. Ask students if they want to buy a ball, which colour would they prefer it to be. Ask students to colour a piece of paper either of these 5 colours: blue, green, yellow, red, white to indicate their choice. After the number of children who selected each number is added up, ask each student to represent each colour choice graphically through a bar graph and histogram.
