Dear Volunteer teacher,

Welcome to the first chapter of the Foundation English Course!

This chapter is divided into three strands; Listening/Speaking, Reading, and writing and we encourage you to teach students in this order only.

This chapter introduces students to the fact that the English language has 26 letters.

Kindly click on the link to get started. Thank you.

Listening/Speaking - You will find the chapter in the text book tab. A lesson plan has been provided which will serve as your guide for what students need to learn, how it will be taught, and how learning will be measured. While we encourage you to stick to the learning objectives and the lesson plan, we would also like you to add your own flavour while teaching this lesson. Kindly do note, you are the facilitator who will steer the course of the lesson. To make the lesson come alive, we have provided a PPT deck in the additional activities tab. Furthermore, you will find a worksheet in the worksheet tab. We urge you to view the movie on how to teach this lesson which has been provided in the video tab . Thank you.

Reading - The reading lesson gives a lot of scope for choral reading. Choral reading helps build students' fluency, self-confidence, and motivation. Because students are reading aloud together, students who may ordinarily feel self-conscious or nervous about reading aloud have built-in support. You will find the chapter in the text book tab. The reason we have the same chapter is beacuse repeated exposure to the same text helps children remember patterns, novel words and connect key concepts.Repetition also aids learning from different perspectives and elements of the experience.
